 (Under Construction for Final) For these business cards, I took inspiration from the logos I had created as well as aspects of my own personality to create what I felt are fitting personal post cards. The top card was created primarily with photo shop, taking advantage of various paint brushes to get that graffiti-spray look, utilizing a variety of bright colors to create a chaotic and energetic appeal. I put the info in the white box to contrast with the surrounding colors and make it more readable, but also to add some visual balance to the back. The second card is much more subtle, but still a bit extravagant.  I really wanted to employ the use of the shape tool in Indesign to create a honeycomb effect, because bees and honey are something that I often think of in relation to myself. I then used a rectangle gradient to get the background effect. It goes over simple important formatting skills, such as changing text case, and getting rid of the "hyphenate" feature, working with text and object containers. In addition, it talks about drop shadows and object effects, creating and editing tables, previewing pages with bleed, margin, and slugs, scaling images proportionally, cropping images, fitting content to a frame, and display performance modes. Because of the amount that this video covers in such a short time, it is by far my favorite video. 2. Ain't it a Fine Life, Carrying the Banner Through it All?

  Newsies, the Broadway musical about the historic newsboy strike of 1899, is above and beyond my favorite movie- so much so that I dressed as a member of the cast for Halloween my senior year of high school. Because of how much I loved the film, I saw this as a perfect opportunity to make my dreams come true and truly make myself one of the newsies.  Using the aforementioned picture, I selected myself using the magnetic lasso tool and created a mask. After fine-tuning the mask layer, I adjusted brightness and saturation levels on my figure to match in with the rest of the characters, adding the slightest bit of blue hue to reflect the lighting coming from the stage. Then, I placed a warming filter to further blend in with the rest of the boys, and shrunk my image to fit in with their size. I placed myself next to the characters on the bottom left-hand side as I felt it would be the least conspicuous.  After placing myself in the image, I created another layer to add my logo. I ended u

Finding Inspiration Somewhere

  1. This image, I believe, would be the hardest to photoshop because of the technique and precision required to place yourself not only perfectly on the bike, but in the woman's arms as well. This would require a lot of sixe and lighting adjustment, and would take a lot of accuracy.  2. This particular image stood out to me for two main reasons. One, it reminded me that for my "Somewhere" project, I should try to wear clothes that fit within the piece to maintain a comprehensive theme. In addition, it demonstrates that, even when blending in with the image, it's still possible to add an element of humor.  3. This image made me laugh, partly because it reminded me of girls posting "weight loss" pictures where the weight that they shedded was the weight of their ex-boyfriend. Chaos Untold

This image was an experimental work created through Photoshop, focusing specifically on the masking tool.  I took inspiration from the picture I chose from myself in the center of the frame, noticing that the angel wings could be an interesting feature. Then, upon noticing the effect that the fiery sunset image I chose for the background had, I decided to have the image go for a slightly more chaotic and sinister tone. This gave me the idea to insert images of the moon and sun on the upper corners of the image, and then use the masking tool to overlay two other pictures of  my face onto them. In an effort to maintain the dark color scheme, I adjusted the coloring of my central picture to be black and white, also allowing me to blend in my legs with the ground underneath. I adjusted the opacity of the image and feathered the edges to create a cohesive blend that, while still looking unnerving, appeared to naturally occur. A pop of color

For this project, I took an image that had a view core colors that I knew would showcase the manipulated colors well. I created this project using a combination of the magnetic select tool, the adjustment layer tool, and the gradient tool. The black and white image was the easiest to complete, and the contrast between the values gave me inspiration on where to place the altered colors to make them best stand out. Instead of just choosing random color schemes, I decided to extract color themes from images that held personal meaning.  The top image (reds, blues, and oranges) was taken from a sunset image of sunflowers that I took back  in Hawaii. Sunflowers are my favorite plant, and I enjoy embedding ties to my home in my artwork as I feel it adds a personal touch and makes it more meaningful. Beginner Tutorial! by FlowGraphics  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAmSB5MQxOo  This video was a great one to start off with, as it set up all the basics for what photoshop has available to its users. It goes over things such as how to adjust an image, how to use basic effects, and how to adjust colorization. In addition, this video contains helpful tips such as knowing the difference between saturation and vibrancy (vibrancy increasing saturation in ever color except for skin tones.) It looks like the setup of the program are fairly similar to the mechanics of adobe illustrator, which makes me feel fairly confident in my ability to learn how to use photoshop.  How to use a layer mask?
